Christmas cards have always been a part of the seasonal celebration. From the earliest exchange of cards recognizing the holiday, the giving and receiving of Christmas cards remains as popular today as it was long, long ago. There are many varieties of cards to choose from that will enable the giver an individual opportunity to express their love and season’s greetings to the recipient. Handmade Christmas cards have become increasingly popular… Handmade Christmas cards have become increasingly popular. In Victorian times cards were frequently hand made, very ornate and lavish. As the times and fashions changed, the popularity of commercial cards grew. In recent years however, handmade cards of all kinds have enjoyed a renaissance of sorts, with whole businesses now providing nothing but card making materials for the serious card crafting individual. For many who’s artistic skills may be lacking, or their level of confidence isn’t where it needs to be, there are Christmas card kits available for those who would like to make their own greetings cards but need a little help. Such kits contain everything from a card blank to all the trimmings to an envelope in which the finished product may be placed and sent. Personalized Christmas cards are often associated with the rich and famous. They will frequently feature a photograph of the family or another image that is relevant and personal to the sender. The other thing worthy of note with personalized Christmas cards is the fact that these are also pre-printed on the inside. Even though it is a time saver, it can leave the recipient feeling that they were just one of hundreds on an anonymous list, thus losing the personal touch so many enjoy experiencing when receiving a Christmas card. Another means accomplished when sending Christmas cards has been to give the annual update to friends and family with whom the sender is no longer closely in touch. Love them or hate them, this approach has been done with increasing frequency. Some Christmas card designs have actually become collector’s items. With collections being based on a design type, such as those featuring Christmas trees, or a particular printing method, they can often end up becoming a valuable thing to collect. So, this year as you sit down to write your Christmas cards keep in mind: you are not simply conveying Christmas greetings, you are also maintaining a tradition; and possibly even producing a collector’s item for the future.
