What Can Big Foot the Monster Do?The remote control contains seven different buttons that will help kids get the most out of their Big Foot. Some of the things you can have him do include walking forward, backwards, making him angry, happy, fun, sleepy, as well as throwing a ball or wanting to exercise. You can trigger Big Foot the Monster’s emotions with the remote control. When you do, you’ll hear him laugh, hear him roar, and even see him pound his fists! His facial expressions also change as your child plays with this giant monster. When Bigfoot goes to sleep he tends to snore loudly! When you press an emotion button while he sleeps, you’ll also hear him dreaming! Exercise With Big FootYour child can work together with Imaginext Big Foot to help him complete an exercise routine. As they do, they will be getting some much-needed exercise themselves! He’ll perform somersaults, lift weights and make all kinds of sounds while he’s going through his exercise routine! When he’s done enough exercise, your child will hear him say “No More!” Whenever Big Foot exercises, he also works up an appetite. His favorite food is the green leaf. By simply pressing the button at his mouth, you’ll hear him chew and burp. What Will You Get?When you buy Imaginext Big Foot the Monster, not only do you get a remote control, you will also get a ball for him to play with. Should You Buy Big Foot? There’s no denying Big Foot is going to be one of the hottest toys of 2010 thanks to the fact that he is so big and noticeable! There aren’t many other toys that can do as much as Big Foot, and young kids should find him adorable rather than scary, even when he gets angry and pounds his chest. Kids won’t get bored quickly because there are so many different options to make Big Foot move and change his mood. He can even throw a ball to the kids! Even though all of this does mean that Big Foot is one of the more expensive toys, you’d expect that due to his sheer size and features. Big Foot is part of the Imaginext range of toys from Fisher Price, and is designed for kids between the ages of 3 and 8. The remote control is uniquely designed for small hands to operate. Big Foot is sold at a recommended retail price of $112.99 (but is available for less from a number of toy retailers). Just shop around for the best price, but don’t wait too long! My son got this for his 4th birthday. He was THRILLED to get it, and couldn’t wait to get it home and start playing with it. He even tried to take it to bed the first night!
The first few days, he played with it repeatedly throughout the day. After a few days, he tired of it. He still enjoys the remote control aspect, but only uses it for 5 minutes or so at a time.
Pros: The BigFoot can do some pretty neat stuff, especially to a 4-year old boy! With the touch of a button, he roars, flips, burps, yells and throws a ball. The first time my son had him flip, he thought it was amazing and couldn’t wait to do it over and over again. The remote is also easy to operate, and has just enough buttons to make it interesting and not overly complicated for the age group.
Cons: Some of the actions are not performed quite as smoothly or easily as on the commercials. For instance, to get the BigFoot to throw the ball, you have to place the ball just so, and hope the mechanical thumb closes around it. If it doesn’t lock or close tight enough, the ball just falls right back out. Also, the ball doesn’t really get thrown so much as dropped with style. Still entertaining for a 4-year old, but only after many, many frustrating efforts getting the ball to stick. Another con is the sheer size/weight of the toy. When it flips over or falls backwards, it lands with a boom. My son used it in a bedroom with laminate wood floor, and there is now a little chip in the floor from the BigFoot landing with such force. It makes odd mechanical noises when it breaths and moves its arms in resting mode, and when it moves around. This makes it a little hard to hear it talk at times, over the whirring. Lastly, and this is the one that my son wishes were different – it only moves backwards and forwards, not side to side. If you’re trying to steer it around the room, good luck!
Overall, it’s a pretty darned neat toy. For the money, I wish they’d made it more maneuverable and fixed the ball throwing.
