Because we all lead such busy lives, none of us really want to think about ideas for Christmas until December, despite the fact that the stores begin stocking their shelves with Christmas paraphernalia by the end of the summer holidays. Think about a mother who receives a badly made pottery ornament from her child. The ornament has been made with love at school and wrapped using far too much sticky tape over cheap, thin wrapping paper. The actual monetary cost of such a gift was minimal, but it is priceless to the recipient.

Set up your party as a pot luck event with everyone contributing an item of food or drink. Opening your home to your friends and family can be enough; you don’t have to feel the obligation to provide all of the provisions as well.

Short of Christmas card ideas? Consider making your own. As an example, if you keep cards from year to year, you will have a ready supply of materials from which to make Christmas collages, resulting in your very own personalized cards.

Another thing to think about: Some people and organizations have stopped sending Christmas cards, preferring instead to make a charitable contribution to a worthy cause.

Children are full of good ideas and are naturally creative. Why not get them involved in the Christmas preparations so they have a better idea and a fuller appreciation of the traditions of this celebration?
