Top Teen Gift Ideas Item ID: #154The iPod: Still Top Of Christmas Wish Lists For Teens and TweensProduct Information:
Item DescriptionNo matter how you slice it, electronics always seem to be on the Christmas wish lists of teens and tweens! And there’s no denying that the iPod has dominated that list for many years. Now comes the most recent upgraded version, and the iPod is set to sell in huge qualities for Christmas 2010. What follows is a quick guide to what’s available, and whether the iPod really is the perfect gift for your teen. iPodBelieve it or not, the Apple iPod Classic is now in its sixth generation and this is the biggest and best iPod available to date. After all the competition entering the burgeoning marketplace, it is still considered the hottest MP3 player around. This version comes with a whopping 160 GB of space and is perfect for the music-loving teen who wants a lot of space for their musical downloads. Prices start at around $250. iPod NanoThe newest iPod Nano for Christmas 2010 is also in its 6th generation, and is looking sleeker than ever before. You can get it in two different hard drive sizes: 8GB and 16GB. You can also access a selection of colors available, including: * Blue Not only can the Nano be played for up to 24 hours between charges, it is designed to be as small and as light as possible and can literally be carried everywhere, as it is small enough to fit into a pocket. The newest Nano functions much like the iPod Shuffle (see below), except for the addition of the small touch screen. Prices start at about $150. iPod TouchIf sophistication is your cup of tea, the iPod Touch will definitely fit the bill. With most of the same features as the iPhone (without the ability to make calls), it comes in a number of capacities: 8GB, 32GB and 64GB. Even though this means it’s useful for most music libraries, some users may find that they need a larger capacity classic iPod in order to fit all of their songs. Prices start at just over $200. The iPod Touch can be played for up to 40 hours between charges and offers a huge number of features. Your teen can watch movies, connect to Wi-Fi networks, download apps to help with school work, instant message their friends, take photographs, just to name a few! iPod ShuffleCurrently in its 4th generation, the iPod Shuffle comes in blue, green, orange, pink and silver color schemes. It has a 2GB capacity, and is designed to take to places such as the gym. Because it doesn’t feature a screen, it’s easy to control without having to look at it. It’s extremely small, and can be played for 15 hours on a single charge. This is also the least expensive version of the iPod available, coming in at around $50. Which iPod Should You Buy?Because both teens and tweens love nearly any model of the iPod, it will depend on whether they need a large hard drive, just need something small, or want the ability to download apps and more. Obviously, the iPod Touch provides the most features, but if price is an issue, then you may want to look into the other models available. No matter which model you choose, you are bound to put a smile on your teen! After using the same Video iPod Gen 5.5 since 2006 I have finally upgraded to an iTouch Gen4. Since I feel there is probably many people in my position (have an iPod but on the fence about upgrading). My review will be written from this point of view.
My biggest complaints about my Old iPod are as follows:
I dislike using iTunes
Navigation of Tracks, Albums, and Artists is difficult with the click wheel (especially while driving)
Screen size impractical for viewing video
Easily Scratched
The latest iTouch addresses all of these problems with the acceptation of iTunes. Still not a big fan of using iTunes but unfortunately most of the alternative are just as bad. If only iTunes was as intuitive as the iTouch itself I would have zero complaints. Navigation on the unit is way easier with the touch screen and the digitizer is extremely accurate compared to other touch screen devices I have owned. In addition the voice command option is fantastic and much more accurate than I had anticipated. Using voice commands while driving allows me to hear the music I want without looking away from the road. The screen size is great (almost as big as the device itself) and being able to switch between portrait and landscape by tilting makes the large screen more practical to use. In addition the resolution of the new Retina display is amazing, it is almost impossible to make out individual pixels …it just looks perfect. As for scratches, the glass on the screen is virtually un-scratchable. I accidentally left it in my pocket with my keys and not a single scratch (the metal on the back of the unit is just as easily scratched as on previous models). This would have certainly scratched my last iPod and in fact video was almost unwatchable on my old unit because of all the scratches. Now I watch streaming Video from Netflix and the picture quality is fantastic.
Some of the bonuses of upgrading:
I didn’t really need a camera option but the camera quality is very respectable. I also love the Wi-Fi Capability and the range on the wireless is very impressive considering the small profile of the unit. Of course the Apps are the charm of this unit. It’s just like taking an iPod and making it more fun and that is the point after all. I also like that there are apps that let you change the way you organize your music. It was good of Apple to allow this instead of being forced to use what is equipped in the iOS. Now if they could make an app that makes iTunes more practical, I’ll be set.
This is a great gadget I have !
As many people complaint that the camera is not as good as iphone 4, yes, I did not pay that much !
The 64G iTouch takes battery too fast, compare with the 32G, it is about 30% shorter time when I have them compared side by side. So, I donot recommend to buy the 64G model, 32G is good enough.
I love it.
i got this ipod 2 weeks after it came out. the camera was the best thing they could have added i use it all the time. the picture quality is pretty good for a ipod. i wanted the speakers to be a little louder they arent very helpful if noone can hear it. also i would recomend getting at least the 16gb 8 just isint enough i have over 3gb of music and thats only for 400 songs. since now there is more room taken up by the pictures and the apps. you need to get a case as soon as you get the ipod because the back gets scratched so easily im not sure if the cases were avaliable yet because when i got mine i went to stores for 2 weeks and they didnt have the cases for the new ipod yet. i since than gave up on trying to find a case but i did get screen protectors since there werent any for the new ipod i got the iphone one and the hole where you talk is just the right size not to block the camera on the front. the internet works very well and fast it was so easy to connect to my wireless internet and it remembers so i dont need to keep adding the code. overall i enjoy this ipod very much. i am glad with my purchase and would recommend it to anyone i would just tell them to be sure what size you want and to make sure to get a case and screen protectors.
I don’t really follow the latest and greatest, so I was in for quite a surprise when my wife bought me a 64GB Touch for a retirement present. I’m coming from a well traveled 1st Generation iPod Touch and all I can say is WOW! This device has certainly come a long way in the last three years. Not only has the form factor gone on a diet, but the added functionality is great. As I’m sure many people have already stated the cameras aren’t anything to write home about but they’re a nice addition. My wife is especially thrilled about being able to FaceTime chat, for which the front facing cam seems to do a pretty serviceable job. Overall I’m absolutely thrilled with this upgrade.
Es un gran producto, la resolucion del video es espectacular, y el facetime es muy bueno. Vale la pena comprarlo.
